Hiyas,
asked about LETS, but there seems to be nothing on the net available.
The guy I spoke to volunteered this:
"
Well, basically the idea is that when you join your local LETS community, you
agree to abide by the rules which (among other things) state that you will
endeavour to repay the community with whatever good or services you choose
to offer, in return for any goods or services you may receive. So if you get
your lawn mowed by one member of the LETS group and agree to acknowledge them
say 30 units, you are now in commitment for 30 units which you will later
redeem by for example washing someone else's car. Likewise the person who
mowed your lawn is now in acknowledgement for 30 units which they can use to
get their hair cut by yet another member. The sum total of the "currency
units" in the group is always zero, and there is no physical currency involved,
just record-keeping. The LETS administration provides the record keeping and
probably also some sort of newsletter and trading directory listing all the
offers and wanteds in that community. Hope that helps!"
